Meet Karla, a dedicated therapist with a M.S.Ed. in Counseling obtained from Northern Illinois University. She provides individual therapy for children, teens, and adults, and specializes in anxiety, life changes/adjustments, and trauma/PTSD. Karla is bilingual and provides therapy sessions in both English and Spanish.
Karla values a client-centered approach, especially incorporating the client’s voice and autonomy in the process. Her therapeutic modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Rogerian/Client-Centered/Humanistic, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma Focused CBT. For Karla, by establishing an atmosphere that is tailored to the client, she emphasizes creating a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can feel deeply heard and understood.
Karla’s background extends to working with challenges that individuals experienced, including depression, ADHD, self-esteem, and emotional dysregulation. She has obtained a Trauma-Informed Counseling Certificate that allows her to guide clients in healing from past traumatic experiences and foster a safe environment for processing and recovery.
Karla looks to cultivate curiosity while collaborating with clients to engage in a meaningful process, often inviting her clients to ask, “What do I want to better understand about myself?” or “What would healing or change look like for me right now?” These questions help lay the groundwork for intentional, personalized therapy work.
Outside of counseling, Karla loves spending time at the beach and being with her dog, Cooper. She enjoys cooking and believes it brings people together with the values of presence, care, and connection.
