She/Her

Location: Lemont, Naperville

Anxiety, Life Changes / Adjustments, Self-Esteem / Self Worth

Finding a therapist who truly understands your world – not just your symptoms – can feel nearly impossible. For many individuals from South Asian and Muslim communities, the barriers go even deeper: cultural stigma around mental health, the pressure to keep struggles within the family, and the fear of being misunderstood by a therapist who doesn’t share your background or speak your language. If you’ve put off therapy because you couldn’t imagine finding someone who would truly get it – Maryam gets it.

Maryam is a bilingual therapist offering sessions in both English and Urdu, with a deep understanding of the cultural nuances, family dynamics, and community pressures that shape the lived experiences of South Asian and Muslim clients. She brings not just clinical training, but genuine cultural fluency – the kind that means you don’t have to spend your session explaining context before you can get to the work.

She provides individual therapy for children, teens, young adults, and adults at the Naperville and Lemont locations, supporting clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, stress, addiction and substance abuse, self-worth struggles, and life transitions. Maryam also has specific experience supporting women with self-esteem, body image, and pregnancy-related concerns — areas where cultural expectations can add a layer of complexity that not every therapist is equipped to hold.

Her work with children and adolescents is particularly distinctive. With over two years of experience as a child and adolescent therapist, Maryam incorporates art and play therapy techniques that help younger clients process big emotions, build confidence, and navigate transitions like new schools or shifting friendships – in ways that feel natural and accessible rather than clinical.

Maryam holds a Master’s in Social Work with a healthcare specialization from Aurora University and draws on a rich toolkit including CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Art and Play Therapy – always tailored to what you actually need, not a one-size-fits-all formula.

Her approach is collaborative, culturally sensitive, and grounded in deep respect for each client’s values and background. “Even if you don’t feel ready to grow or change,” Maryam tells her clients, “taking this step to come to therapy shows that you’re more capable than you might think. I’ll be here to guide you, support you, and help you see your own strengths.”

If you’ve been waiting for a therapist who understands where you come from – culturally, linguistically, and personally – you don’t have to wait any longer.

Outside the therapy room, Maryam enjoys hiking, beach days, traveling, and exploring clean eating and skincare. If she could try another career for a day, she’d be a pediatrician – a reflection of her lifelong passion for helping children and families thrive.
