Denise Mahasi, MS

She/Her

Location: Naperville

Anxiety, Depression, Trauma / PTSD

We all carry a story – the experiences, relationships, and moments that have shaped who we are. Sometimes that story includes chapters we’re still trying to make sense of: anxiety that won’t quiet down, sadness that lingers, or past experiences that resurface when we least expect them. Untangling those chapters is often the first step toward real change.

That’s exactly what draws Denise Mahasi, MS, to this work. She became a therapist because she has always wanted to know the “why” behind a person – what shapes us, what holds us back, and what moves us forward. For the past two years, Denise has specialized in anxiety, depression, and trauma/PTSD, while also supporting clients through mood disorders and life changes and adjustments. She offers individual, couples, family, and group sessions for children, adolescents, teens, young adults, and adults. Denise received her MS in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University.

“I believe therapy works best when clients feel genuinely heard and understood,” Denise shares, “so I take time to understand each person’s unique experiences, values, culture, relationships, needs, and goals.”

Denise knows that starting – or restarting – therapy isn’t always easy, especially if a past experience didn’t feel like the right fit. She meets that hesitation with reassurance: therapy should be collaborative, individualized, and grounded in trust. She welcomes questions, feedback, and preferences every step of the way, adapting her approach so it genuinely fits what each client needs.

Drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT, Denise builds a trusting relationship with each client, helping them feel comfortable exploring difficult experiences while developing practical skills to manage emotions, challenge unhelpful patterns, and create meaningful change.

Her therapeutic style is integrative, collaborative, and culturally responsive, always grounded in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Together, she and her clients work to overcome whatever factors – internal or external – are getting in the way of the life they want to see.

Outside of sessions, Denise’s love of cooking and baking is more than a hobby – she’s a college cooking competition winner. And if she weren’t a therapist? She’d be a lifestyle blogger.
