Katie Ataç, M.ED., Counseling Associate

Location: Lemont, Naperville

ADD /ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Life Changes / Adjustments

You’ve spent your whole life being told to try harder, sit still, mask more, fit in. Maybe you’re autistic, or wondering if you might be. Maybe ADHD has you feeling constantly behind, forgetting things, or “too much,” with a heavy layer of shame underneath. Whatever brought you here, you deserve support that sees you as whole – not something to fix.

That’s the space Katie Ataç provides.

Katie works with neurodivergent children, teens, and young adults, focusing on autism, ADHD, and life changes/adjustments, and also supports clients through anxiety, depression, self-esteem struggles, and relationship issues. She offers individual, family, and group sessions in Naperville and Lemont. Katie is completing her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at National Louis University, holds an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from Loyola University Chicago, and a B.S. in Clinical/Community Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Her path here includes years working directly with neurodivergent kids – as a summer camp counselor supporting autistic and ADHD campers, and as a Counseling Paraprofessional at the University of Illinois Counseling Center, where she built the center’s first neurodivergent-affirming workshop. As a neurodivergent person herself, Katie brings lived experience into every session.

She draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Client-Centered approaches – all through a person-centered, strengths-based, neurodivergent-affirming lens. “Who you are is not something that needs fixing,” Katie says. “You don’t have to earn your place here, prove anything, or put on a brave face.” She believes neurodivergence is a difference to understand, not a deficit to correct, and works to help clients unmask safely and build strategies that fit how their brain actually works.

Outside the therapy room, Katie sings as a lyric soprano with a background in musical theatre, leads a large online gaming community, and is an animal lover through and through.
