Kerry Pritchard, LSW, knows how heavy grief can feel—not just the loss of loved ones, but the loss of who you were before, the loss of identity, and the question of who you are after everything changes. She also understands the loneliness and confusion that can come with being part of the LGBTQ+ community, even as you’re celebrating who you’re becoming: yourself. And for children carrying big feelings they don’t have words for, she knows how important it is to have a safe space to express what’s inside.
Kerry specializes in grief and loss, LGBTQ+ support, and play therapy for clients in Naperville and Shorewood, helping people feel seen, heard, and understood. She also provides support for anxiety, art therapy, life changes and adjustments, religious concerns, and trauma and PTSD. Kerry earned her Bachelor’s degree in Counseling and Creative Writing from Ball State University and her Master of Social Work from Aurora University. She offers individual and family therapy for children, adolescents, teens, young adults, adults, and older adults.
Kerry brings three years of experience in Hospice Social Work, where she provided grief counseling and support for families and individuals moving through loss and saying goodbye. She uses Person-Centered therapy—where you guide the process and are met with genuine compassion and curiosity—Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which explores attachment and connection, family systems approaches that look at relational dynamics, mindfulness, psychodynamic approaches, and strengths-based therapy. Her style is relational, compassionate, nonjudgmental, and fully present.
What inspired Kerry to become a therapist was her own experience as a young person with a counselor who changed her life: “Her genuine compassionate care and curiosity opened an entire world to me… she helped me see that who I was and what I was going through MADE SENSE.” That experience shaped how she shows up for clients today—with the same curiosity, compassion, and presence that once helped her feel less alone.
As part of the LGBTQ+ community herself, Kerry brings lived experience to her work supporting others on their journey. Through play therapy, she creates a safe atmosphere where children can process through play, art, and activity when they don’t have words for their big feelings. With grief and loss, she walks alongside clients navigating not only the loss of loved ones but “the loss of identity, who we are after loss.” She wants every client to know: “We are in this together. That they are safe, supported, and seen… that the client’s journey is as special and individual as they are.”
Outside of sessions, Kerry once gave a chipmunk CPR (found it drowning while working as a camp counselor!), used to do makeup and hair for print and films, and was born in California but has moved over 25 times through more than 9 states.
