Navreet Heneghan, JD, Counseling Associate, understands that grief and loss touch every human in one way or another—whether through life transitions, the loss of a loved one, or loss of purpose. She works with clients in Naperville experiencing women’s issues, race and social justice concerns, and grief and loss—helping people navigate the complexities that come with identity, transition, and healing. She also provides support for addictions and substance abuse, LGBTQ+ concerns, life changes and adjustments, and self-esteem. Navreet earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northwestern University, her Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, and is currently completing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at National Louis University. She is also a Certified Mediator. She offers individual therapy sessions in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu for adolescents, teens, young adults, adults, and older adults.
Navreet brings a unique background to her therapeutic work—years of experience as a lawyer uncovering stories and a longtime practice as a meditator and zen practitioner. She draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns, mindfulness, narrative therapy, which involves exploring the stories we tell ourselves, client-centered therapy, where you guide the process, and strengths-based approaches that highlight what’s already working in your life. Her style is highly intuitive, warm, and supportive, meeting clients where they are.
As a woman of color and former School Board Member for eight years, Navreet has both lived experience and practical resources to support communities of color and culture. She helped form ways to support families navigating these systems and brings that knowledge into the therapeutic space. When working with women’s issues, she recognizes how interconnected everything can be—grief, loss, and transition often show up together, and she’s here to work through all of it. Her biggest strength is being “willing to hold space for the client,” which allows people to build trust and feel comfortable sharing their stories. What drives her work is simple: the belief that “the best person to help is one’s own self” and her role is to provide a caring environment where clients can find their own solutions.
Outside of sessions, Navreet loves feeding birds at her bird feeder right outside her window (they chirp at her when she goes outside!), has stacks of books in her home that make her very happy, and is always game for any fun activity a loved one suggests. If she could switch careers for a day? She’d want to be a symphony conductor.
